About me
I was born in Missouri as a military 'brat' and moved around up until I reached the 5th grade when my mother left the military and we settled in Sanford, NC. Both of my parents are from northern Louisiana so if anyone ask me where I'm from, I usually tell them I'm from Louisiana since most of my family still lives there, but I was raised in North Carolina. Since traveling all over the world I have effectively lost my southern accent.
I felt the need to serve in the military after the attacks of September 11th 2001. Because my mother was also in the military she convinced me to join the Air Force, and my father taught me how to weld so I choose a construction career in the Air Force. I worked for seven and a half years as a Structural Civil Engineer for the U.S. Air Force. During my time in the military and eventual civilian life, I pursued my dream of becoming an architect. Many times my dreams to finish school were put to the side to accommodate deployments, base relocation, and personal needs of my family before mine. Although the journey has been long and hard at times, I have still pushed through to accomplish my goals by never giving up on myself and my dream of being an architect.
While is was in the service, I earned my undergraduate Associates of Science Degree in Construction Technologies from the Community College of the Air Force. I have been part of and lead numerous construction projects for the Air Force, and while working on these projects I worked hand in hand with many Military and contracted Architects to finish time sensitive work requests within budget. It was not until after I was in the Military, I realized that although I enjoyed building I was more interested in designing and creating buildings, not just putting them together. While in the Military I worked hard to progress my degree while completing my obligation to the military. When given the chance to leave the service, I decided that it was time to focus on pursuing my degree at a university level from a national accredited program.
Since then I have started my own website design business, and completed my bachelor’s in environmental design in architecture from NCSU. After I graduate with a master’s in architecture, I would like to go back to school to get my pilot's license and work at a firm at the same time.
